Legumes
and grains contain different but overlapping sets of amino acids which, when
consumed together in a complete diet, provide all the building blocks we need
to make and use proteins ourselves.
So,
beans and grains together provide perfectly adequate proteins without
the need to consume meat as well, but not beans alone. Also, beans don’t
provide adequate levels of a number of micronutrients found in meat: iron, B12,
and others.
